Growing
Basil at home Grow your own basil
in the Garden or a container and save hundreds as compared to a
purchase at the store!
You can buy basil in the store for
around $3.50 and get about 10-20 leaves.
Or you can Purchase a basil pant from any nursery for about the
same price. Your basil plant will easily grow in a container as
small as 6 inches round but ideally you want to use a 12-24 inch
round container.
Basil grows rapidly, After picking basil eaves off the plant
they will grow in new ones within 2-3 days.
In a container your basil will last at least a year or more
saving you hundreds of dollars maybe even thousands compared to
the amount you get when you purchase basil in a store.
Growing basil is quite simple and very low maintenance. When you
bring your basil plant home and repot it the amount of leaves
present on the Plant are double if not triple that of what you
get when you purchase in a store.
Pinch off the basil leaves or pull the leaves off the stem to ensure future
growth. Basil likes direct warm or hot and humid conditions.
It also loves water. Allow it to dry out between watering
because root rot can also be a problem.
Basil tip:
Mosquito's and flies dislike the smell of basil. Grow it on a
patio or deck to keep them away.
Rub crushed basil on your skin to repel mosquitoes.
